Employability Skills Training (EST) is an Australian Government Initiative. Its aims include:
- Helping participants gain work ready skills and successfully navigate the job market
- Providing employers with work ready candidates to help meet their staffing needs
We have a suite of EST Training courses available across the region. Our courses are run by skilled trainers who strive for a supportive, positive learning setting for all. Courses include industry awareness experiences to provide participants with insights into job opportunities, job requirements and expectations of the industry and workplaces they are looking to gain employment in. Workplace experiences can include workplace visits and employers meeting with participants to share knowledge and answer questions.
With a focus on increasing success by developing and improving knowledge and skills, our courses include:
- Detailed information on entry-level jobs in specific industries in the local area
- Increased skills through a relevant accredited statement of attainment
- Insights through industry awareness experiences
- Information on skills and qualities employers expect and value
- Information on the best strategies to obtain a job in an industry of choice
- Training on how to tap into the ‘hidden job market’
- Training and support to develop tailored resumes and job applications
- Training and activities to develop skills for face-to-face, group and virtual interviews
- Insights through doing aptitude and/or cognitive assessments
- Digital literacy training and support if needed
- Strategies for ongoing job success
Our courses also includes training endorsed by a range of local employers as important to help improve participants’ success. This includes healthy living, habits and work fitness; improved self-awareness; personal presentation; punctuality and reliability; building emotional intelligence; helpful thinking; teamwork and resilience.
EST Generalist Course
This course is for participants interested in entry level positions in a range of industries and includes accredited training in a unit, such as Provide First Aid or Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card).
Our skilled trainers will facilitate skills and abilities assessments and assist participants to undertake an aptitude and/or cognitive assessment. Results will help participants identify jobs and industries they would like to work in. Participants will be provided with support to access work experience, PATH internships or employment opportunities.
Specialised EST Course – Horticulture
This course will help prepare participants for entry level roles in the Horticulture Industry. Our skilled trainers will facilitate skills and abilities assessments and assist participants to undertake an aptitude and/or cognitive assessment. As there are many different roles in this industry, following these assessments our trainers will support participants to choose positions they are well suited to. We will source industry awareness experiences with local employers such as the Guyra Tomato Exchange, local plant nurseries and local councils. This course will also include an accredited unit, such as Pot up Plants. Participants will be provided with support to access work experience, PATH internships or employment opportunities.
Specialised EST Course – Construction
This course will help prepare participants for entry level roles in the Construction and Infrastructure Industries. Our skilled trainers will facilitate skills and abilities assessments and assist participants to undertake an aptitude and/or cognitive assessment. As there are many different roles in this industry, following these assessments our trainers will support participants to choose positions they are well suited to. We will source Industry awareness experiences with local employers such as local councils, Inland Rail, solar farms and local building companies. This course will also include the accredited unit Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card). Participants will be provided with support to access work experience, PATH internships or employment opportunities.
Specialised EST Course – Community Services
This course will help prepare participants for entry level roles in the Community Services industry. Our skilled trainers will facilitate skills and abilities assessments and assist participants to
undertake an aptitude and/or cognitive assessment. As there are many different roles in this industry, following these assessments our trainers will support participants to choose positions they are well suited to. We will source Industry awareness experiences with local employers such as aged care facilities, disability support services and homelessness support services This course will also include an accredited micro-credential, such as HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. Participants will be provided with support to access work experience, PATH internships or employment opportunities.
