Armidale & The New England Region
Set in the heart of the New England region, Armidale boasts a population of approx. 23,000, and is the home of Australia’s first regionally based university and some of the best public and private primary and secondary schools in NSW.
Situated halfway between Brisbane and Sydney our newly renovated airport offers regular return flights to both cities and a 2 hour trip by road to the beach along the picturesque Waterfall Way.
The region is renowned for its historical buildings, fine museums, renowned art collections, superb fishing, fossicking, bushwalking, festivals, markets, pubs, clubs and fine restaurants. Everything you would want or need without the commute.
For over 30 years, Jobs Australia Enterprises Ltd, have been helping good people go great places. Since the establishment of our first office in Armidale in 1989, Jobs Australia Enterprises Ltd has grown and expanded significantly throughout the New England and North West regions.
Our brand is synonymous with a well-regarded, high performing local organisation which supports the community and businesses. Collectively, Jobs Australia Enterprises Ltd has demonstrated significant experience in the provision of professional `hands on and localised’ employment related solutions, including a focused approach to assist jobseekers into sustainable employment, as well as meeting the workforce development requirements of employers.
Jobs Australia Enterprises Ltd encompass a range of programs including: jobactive; Disability Employment Services (DES); Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP); Fee-for-service Human Resources, Recruitment and Labour Hire solutions (speediestaffsolutions); and we deliver accredited training through our Registered Training Organisation (RTO) – Altitude Training Solutions.
Our social enterprises also include the Learner Driver Mentor Program assisting learner drivers in the 17-24 age bracket who do not have access to a qualified supervising driver. Sapphire Academy of Sports located in Inverell NSW is open to job seekers and disadvantaged people in the inverell community to help break physical and mental barriers.
Jobs Australia Enterprises Ltd (JAE) have been assisting people in the New England and North West for over 31 years. This includes over 2000 people per year seeking employment and over 2300 Pacific Islanders in seasonal work. Through this work, JAE recognised there are times in Gunnedah where women have relied on the good nature of accommodation businesses to take in victims of domestic violence and that this has often been very short term and due to the lack of a suitable alternative, these victims have found themselves back in the violent environment from which they escaped. This further exposes them and their children to violence.
The JAE board and particularly the CEO Nigel Barlow and Deputy CEO Gavin Kay had a vision to assist women, children and their pets to escape domestic violence and provide them with crisis accommodation in the Gunnedah community and surrounds. Having the crisis accommodation available right here in Gunnedah became a priority to provide a safe haven and a better outcome for victims of domestic violence. Victims of domestic violence often do not leave the household for a number of reasons including not having a safe, supportive environment for themselves and their children to go to at short notice. To bring this vision to fruition for the Gunnedah community, Jobs Australia Enterprises purchased a property that was demolished in 2020. With a grant from Stronger Country Communities, a new, purpose-built crisis accommodation that will be known as Allawah Cottage will be completed in 2021.
FlatTrack enables young people who have lost their way to reconnect with education and training, become work ready and secure meaningful employment. Most importantly, we get young people ‘over their mountains and back on the flat track’ by developing strong, happy and healthy foundations that result in positive life pathways and full participation in their communities.
The FlatTrack program teaches young people life skills and takes a hands-on approach to learning while building a sense of belonging and independence. Our facilities include “The Shed” which is used for our woodwork, metalwork and mechanics, “The Farm” which is for learning farming and machinery skills and our community activities where we encourage the participants to help out local businesses or community members who are having a hard time. As part of the program the FlatTrack participants engage in the community by assisting local agencies, businesses and families with lawn maintenance, handyman services and support with disaster recovery.
Sapphire Academy of Sport (SAS)
Sapphire Academy of Sport (SAS) was opened on 1st October 2018. An initiative of Jobs Australia Enterprises, SAS focuses on supporting job seekers and disadvantaged people in the Inverell & surrounding communities.
SAS helps break down barriers mentally and physically through boxing and martial arts fitness.
Learner Driver Mentor Program (LDMP)
The Learner Driver Mentor Program (LDMP) supports leaner drivers to become licenced drivers by allowing them use of a vehicle for on-road practice while a volunteer mentor supervises them. The program is designed to assist learner drivers aged between 16 – 24 years who do not have access to a qualified supervising driver or access to a vehicle but need to meet the licensing requirements of the New South Wales (NSW) Graduated Licensing Scheme for employment or other reasons. The LDMP may support the learners in logging some or all of the required practice hours. For many people, securing a driver licence helps address barriers to employment and can also assist in other areas of social isolation and increase community participation.
