Learner Mentor Driver Program

Growing independence and creating safer roads.

The Jobs Australia Enterprises Ltd (JAE) Learner Driver Mentor Program (LDMP) aims to help eligible and disadvantaged Learner Drivers gain the confidence and skills to achieve their Provisional 1 (P1) license. For those under the age of 25 years old this includes logging their 120 logbook hours for their P1 license.

The program provides a vehicle for on-road practice and a volunteer mentor to supervise Learner Drivers. Prior to being matched with a Mentor, Learner Drivers must have an assessment lesson with a professional driving school along with signing a confirmation that they understand and will uphold their responsibilities as part of the program. The program aims to increase independence, employment opportunities, community participation, and reduce social isolation.

The key outcomes include aiding Leaner Drivers under 25 years old to achieve their 120 hours of supervised driving experience and for all participates to gain the skills to successfully pass their P1 license practical driving test. The program is based on coaching and mentoring principles, focusing on safe and minimal risk driving strategies and techniques.

Mentors

Our Mentors are volunteers and required to hold a current Full (unrestricted) Driver’s License, a current Working with Children’s Check, and a National Policy Check, as well as provide us with a copy of their driving record. All costs associated with the course and the checks are covered by the program.

Learners

Our Learners are from disadvantaged backgrounds who do not have access to a car and/or a qualified open licensed driver who can help them gain appropriate driving experience. The program is free to the learners; the only requirements are that they hold a current Learners permit in NSW, meet the eligibility criteria of the program, and meet their obligations while participating in the program.
